Leaf Creative Arts wants your vote to win £50K of National Lottery funding
A local community group in Birmingham is calling for your vote to secure £50,000 of National Lottery funding as part of this year’s People’s Projects.
Brum-based project Moving Memory Cafe, which is part of Leaf Creative Arts CIC, runs sessions for people living with dementia as well as isolated members of the community using the mediums of art, music and theatre.
If successful, Leaf Creative Arts will use the grant to expand the number of memory cafes and other art, music and activity sessions run for people with dementia, people with mental health problems and people with other needs who would benefit from socialising.
The organisation would be able to employ more session leaders and practitioners from varying backgrounds and disciplines as well as provide voluntary and internship opportunities to help people gain new skills.
The money would also go towards the cost of materials and equipment for the sessions as well as for a celebration event and exhibition which would take place at the end of the project.
During the project, people’s memories will be recorded to create oral histories celebrating the participant’s life stories which will be made available for the public to access.
Now in its 13th year, the Big Lottery Fund, ITV and The National Lottery are teaming up to give the public a chance to decide how National Lottery funding should be put to good use in their local area.
Designed to celebrate some of the incredible projects the Big Lottery Fund has supported over the past year, 95 community-based schemes are now shortlisted across the UK. In each region, the three with the most public votes will receive grants of up to £50,000. This will help them to continue their work to improve local people’s lives. The entire amount up for grabs across the UK is a life-changing £3 million.
Carla Smith, Project Leader at Leaf Creative Arts, said:
“This is an exciting opportunity to raise awareness and support for our work and, with your help, to secure further much-needed funding. We urge local people to get behind us. If successful, our project will make a real difference to our local community by enabling us to run more sessions and reach more people, cover the cost of materials and provide a sense of belonging and friendship amongst the people we will be reaching.”
Voting closes at midday on Monday 30 April 2018. People can vote once per region and will need an email address to vote. To support the Moving Memories Cafe and for Ts & Cs please visit www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk
