Lord Mayor to fundraise for three Birmingham charities
Lord Mayor of Birmingham Councillor Anne Underwood has named three charities which she will be raising money for during her 2017-18 tenure.
Councillor Underwood has represented the Four Oaks ward since 1982 and has picked three charities particularly close to her heart: Cherished/Blossom, Dementia UK and Whizz Kidz.
Cherished/Blossom works to empower young women in the Midlands by; providing a safe space to explore identity, ambitions and relationships. Their aim is for girls to grow in confidence, self-esteem and character, providing a platform to make positive life choices and fulfil their potential. At the request of schools they plan to include younger girls from primary school age through ‘Blossom’.
Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through their Admiral Nurses service. When things get challenging or difficult, their nurses work alongside people with dementia and their families, giving them the one-to-one support, export guidance and practical solutions they need, and that can be hard to find elsewhere.
Whizz Kidz transforms the lives of disabled children by providing the equipment, support and life skills they need, when they need them – giving them the chance to develop their full potential.
The Lord Mayor will be supported over her year by two Consorts, her son Philip and her daughter Caroline. They are looking forward to supporting the Lord Mayor in her various fundraising endeavours; and accompanying her on her various commitments over the year.
