R2W: A new, simple way to search for wellbeing activities in your area!
Route2Wellbeing Birmingham is an online directory of services aimed at promoting wellbeing. The site has been commissioned by the Better Care Fund to improve Health and Wellbeing.
Jason Meredith, Better Care Project Manager, says, “We are working with BVSC to bring together in one place as many voluntary, community and social enterprise sector services as possible. We want Route2Wellbeing to become the directory of choice for health and care professionals in Birmingham.
“We commissioned the directory because it will be a valuable tool for GPs and other health and care professionals by offering them options for addressing the underlying social needs that some patients experience. The sector provides a range of services that help people to enjoy better quality lives. Whether it is advice, physical activities or social groups, the sector helps people to tackle their problems, be more active and less isolated. There is growing evidence that if we can improve people’s wellbeing they are less likely to need health care services, which is obviously important. More importantly however people have better outcomes because they are more connected, happy and active.
“We are delighted to be supporting Route2Wellbeing because it helps people to know what services and activities are near to them, and it promotes the work of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector to health and social care colleagues who might not realise the amazing work done by the sector.”
Route2wellbeing is an intuitive and simple way of finding out about the different wellbeing activity in the city – three clicks and you’ll have a great picture of what’s happening around you to support your wellbeing.
We know there are great services out there that people are not taking advantage of. Route2wellbeing focuses on user experience and aims to be the definitive guide to local voluntary and community services in Birmingham. Over the coming years Route2Wellbeing will improve access to wellbeing activity and prevent ill health.
We recognise that there are many routes to health and wellbeing in Birmingham, and we aim to include as wide a range of activity as is possible. Whether it’s advice and guidance, tai chi or social activity we aim to promote all the activity available that keeps you feeling well and engaged with the community around you. If you want to know what’s going on in your area Route2Wellbeing is the best place to start.
If you provide a wellbeing activity and you want to add your service to the site email Stephanie (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will give you great visibility to the community around you. Currently there are over 500 activities on Route2wellbeing with more services being added over the coming weeks, months and years.
Chris Haines, Head of Housing Care & Support at Midland Mencap, said “We found the site easy to use, and hope that it provides plenty of interest for us”.
